I love taking senior photos! I know that the young person I am photographing has so much to look forward to. They are embarking on a long and hopefully exciting journey.
Senior portraits mark a very important milestone in a young person's life. That's why I want their time with me to be a good experience. I want them to feel comfortable and most of all I want to offer them beautiful photos to treasure forever.
I would like to offer a little advice for picture day.
Wear comfortable clothes. I don't mean baggy sweats, but this is especially for the girls. While short skirts are very flattering they can be difficult when you are moving around and trying to pose in different positions. The same goes for low cut tops. try to wear outfits that you can comfortably pose in, in many different positions without exposing too much skin. Also, sleeveless may not be the way to go. Photographs can sometimes make our arms look larger than they really are. If you are a size 2 don't worry about sleeveless.
Solid colors are usually best, but adding some soft print accessories works fine. If you tan, please try to stay away from spray tans prior to your photos. I find that they tend to look orange through the camera. Have your hair cut, permed and/or colored two weeks prior to the session. Please do not do it the day before!
One of the most important tips I can give you is relax, don't be stiff and shy. I understand some people are very uncomfortable behind the camera. I have always hated getting my photo taken. In fact that's how I grew to love photography. I wouldn't pose at family gatherings so they gave me the camera! If it helps bring a friend that makes you feel at ease. Learn to relax your smile and your body will follow.
